This year we decided to support the MacMillan Nurses charity drive against cancer – a condition that affects the vast majority of us be it directly or indirectly.

Kenco Singles machines with balloons

On September 27th 2013 (and a couple of other dates!) we saw a number of driven individuals organize their own local coffee mornings to further the cause. It was our greatest pleasure to do what we could to help by supplying coffee machines, Kenco coffee, PG Tips tea and of course…Suchard chocolate! Here are a few examples of the good work we were kindly asked to help with…

The Grass Roots Projectlink- Teddington
How much raised? £536.86 with the help of their colleagues in Tring (Herts). A fantastic result which we hope to replicate next year!

Hatfield Town Council – Hatfield
Guess what? The Mayor and Mayoress came to support. The fundraiser coincided with the grand opening of Hatfield’s Town Hub community information centre. Many from the local community along with ASDA & Simmons bakery donated cakes (including Roger Reid’s wife!).  Total raised was £79.05

The Green Man pub – Hemel Hempstead
Gloria Odell decided to get things going with a Mad Hatters tea party! Again we supplied the tea (and coffee). The theme was truly exceptional…many wearing the obligatory costumes and parading the cause! Even the local press came by to photo – but hopefully not photo shop! – the event! Besides coffee/tea/cup cakes etc there was a raffle (top[prize round of golf for 4 – pro stuff, not American goony golf!) and much to purchase like silk scarves, books and jewellery – all priced at an incredibly charitable price of £1 – 2.00! On a personal note I was offered a few cup cakes on the house – I declined on the day but regret it now…it’s always when you think about things after the event….

How much? Over £600.00 on the day and the Green Man pub who kindly loaned us their facility room continued to sell the glorious cup cakes by the plate! Total raised £670.00

Park Veterinary Practice – Watford
I love animals having had pets all my childhood (I’m a Texan – but like cats – my bad). It will therefore, come as no surprise that I wanted to help out Park Vets in Watford when they asked. Again we provided the machine, tea and coffee and they did the rest. And what a ‘Rest’!…selling tea or coffee with a cake at a very charitable £1.50 plus a raffle prize (3rd prize a teddy which I like better than 1st prize of food hamper!!)

Being a veterinary practice they also had a very specific way to raise money that is fantastic. They held a caption competition (20p to enter) where a photo of a small turtle was climbing up a larger turtle – or tortoise.
Top prize? A tortoise, or small turtle. I joke! Top prize was a bottle of bubbly/choccys and a teddy bear! The winning caption? – “Running on Shell”..hehe………..
How much raised? £816.74
